It is a very diverse market with different nationalities and interests and you can launch a variety of services and products here. Slovenia is a part of the European Union since 2004 and part of the Schengen zone since 2007. In comparison to some other EU countries, it has a very straight-forward process of company registration. As a foreigner, what kind of company can you open in Slovenia?
Doing business in Slovenia would require you to set up a company here. As a foreigner, you have several options, depending on your business experience.
If you want to start a fresh business, you can open an LTD company. It requires 7.500€ founding capital and shareholders can be natural persons. The whole process from obtaining the tax numbers, signing the act of establishment and opening the bank account takes about 1 month to complete. When the company is officially registered, you can enter the European market by signing contracts with Slovenian and European clients.
How about experienced entrepreneurs? What possibilities do they have when registering a company in Slovenia?
In addition to opening an LTD company, foreign entrepreneurs have also the option of opening a branch office or a subsidiary if they have an existing company abroad.
Such company types give them the possibility to advertise and sell their existing product or services in the European market.
A subsidiary is also an LTD company. The owner in that case is a foreign legal entity. It also requires 7.500€ founding capital but it has to come from the parent company’s bank account. Within a subsidiary you can still register different business activities and also launch new services for the European market.
A branch office is the only company type that is not a separate legal entity, but rather a part of the parent company. It is also the only company type that requires company registration at the notary’s office. It does not require founding capital. But you can only provide the services that your parent company has registered. Foreigners usually establish a branch office in Slovenia when they want to advertise and sell their existing product on the European market.
