Business in Europe

How does Slovenia relate to the EU market?

Slovenia is a country in central Europe bordering on Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Italy. It became part of the EU in 2004 and entered the Schengen zone in 2007. A company in Slovenia gives you the possibility to enter the EU market with your products and services. As the EU market is one common market consisting of various countries, having a company here gives you access to servicing clients in 27 EU member states.

Slovenia gives the possibility to register a company for EU and non-EU citizens. The registration is far easier than in the majority of countries from the EU market. Also, the Slovenian population speaks English or another foreign language. So communication is made much easier that way.

How to register your company in Slovenia?

What kind of company can you open in Slovenia to become a part of the EU market?

Depending on your business experience you can register various company types to enter the EU market. The most commonly chosen company type is LTD company type. It is also the easier company to register as is requires only 7500€ share capital, Slovenian tax numbers for shareholders and representatives and a business address in Slovenia.

If you have an existing company abroad and would like to expand your products or services you can also open a daughter company or subsidiary. It is still an LTD company so it gives you more flexibility when it comes to the business activities you can perform within. But even here you have your existing company as a shareholder. This enables you to gain trust with your business partners and clients as an existing company in the background holds more trust in the eyes of the consumers.

The third option to enter the EU market is opening a branch office in Slovenia. This is possible if you already have a business abroad and would only like to have a business unit in the EU. Of course, to promote or offer your existing services. This company type is less flexible as it is dependent on the parent company. As well as, it can only offer the services, which the parent company has registered. Usually it is use to promote products or services in a new market. The benefit of a branch office is also that it requires no share capital in the process of registration.
