Immigrating to Slovenia – first step is to set up a company
In order to be as independent as possible, we suggest immigrating to Slovenia by setting up your own business. Non-EU citizens can open a LTD company. But EU citizens can also become sole traders. The same goes for non-EU citizens who already live in Slovenia at least 1 year.
For opening a LTD you need 7500€ share capital, a business address in Slovenia and a Slovenian tax number. If you have a business abroad, you can also open a daughter company or a branch office.

Immigrating to Slovenia – active business conduct
The process of immigrating to Slovenia starts when your company fulfills one of the options of active business conduct. This is possible in one of three ways:
- investing 50.000€ into the company by buying fixed assets (like buying real estate)
- or employ an EU citizen for 6 months for full-time,
- or 10.000€ monthly revenue for the company for 6 months.
One of these options gives the director the right to apply for temporary work and residence permit. Also, it gives you the right to employ other non-EU staff.
This permit for Slovenia will allow you to travel to all the Schengen states without visas. It would also be a starting point for a permanent residence permit or the citizenship.

After immigrating to Slovenia, you can then later also apply for permanent residence permit. This is possible after 5 years of living in Slovenia. It has to be without any breaks. If you have been living here on the basis of studies, it will count as half toward the permanent residency.
