Vignette is a toll-collection system which many EU countries use. Slovenia is also one of the countries that uses the vignette toll collection. For the year 2021 it is of a blue-green color. Since 1st February 2021, it is mandatory for all vehicles that use highways and motorways in Slovenia. The Company for Motorways in the Republic of Slovenia (DARS) estimates that this will be the last paper vignette. Starting next year, Slovenia will start using the electronic system for toll collection.

Vignette in Slovenia – what are the prices?
Slovenia is using annual, monthly and weekly vignettes for toll class 2A (passenger cars) and 2B (combined vehicles) and annual, semi-annual and weekly vignettes for the first toll class (motorcycles). For the annual toll for passenger cars, you would have to pay 110 EUR. The monthly toll will cost 30 EUR per month and 15 EUR you will pay for the weekly vignette.
For combined vehicles, the cost of an annual vignette will be 220 EUR, while a monthly vignette will cost 60 EUR and a weekly vignette – 30 EUR. For motorcycles, the price of the annual vignette remains unchanged, 55 EUR. Motorcycle owners will have to pay 30 EUR for the monthly vignett and 7.50 EUR for the weekly toll.
In 2022, an electronic vignette will be introduced!
Already last October, the National Assembly approved the introduction of an electronic vignette in an amendment to the Toll Act. The purchase will be possible via the application, online and at petrol stations. Among other things, the ministry pointed out in the past that the new system of toll collection will be fairer to the users, as the annual e-vignette will be valid for one year from the day of purchase.
Decline in sales due to COVID-19
The vignette for the year 2021 has been on sale since December last year. In the first month, they sold 132,289 annual vignettes for the year 2021, which is 24 percent less than they sold them for the year 2020 in December 2019. Sales of annual vignettes for passenger cars (toll class 2A) fell by a quarter to 121,674. Sales of monthly and weekly vignettes also declined.
According to DARS, the value of vignettes sold in December was EUR 15.81 million and was EUR 7.11 million lower than in the comparable period of 2019.
