Tax ID number in Slovenia – opening a company in Slovenia

If you plan on expanding your business to Europe, the first step is to open a new company. When opening a company, it is mandatory to obtain a tax ID number in Slovenia. This means that all shareholders and directors would need a Slovenian tax number. This goes for natural persons and also legal entities, in case of registering a subsidiary.

A natural person can obtain the tax number at the Slovenian Tax office (FURS) by filling out the form DR-02. They would need to personally come to the tax office to submit the form and obtain the tax ID number. A valid passport and a copy of the passport is required when submitting the application.

A legal entity also has to obtain a tax ID number if it wants to be a shareholder in a Slovenian company or if it is establishing the branch office. To obtain it, the legal representative of the foreign entity has to also go to the Slovenian tax office (FURS) to obtain if. For this, he will need an extract from the business registry, which is not older than 3 months. It also needs to be dully notarized and translated to Slovene language by a court translator. In addition, the legal representative has to fill in the DR-04 form and submit a copy of the business registry with the application. He also needs to bring with him the original extract for inspection.

Buying real estate

EU citizens and members of the OECD have the possibility to buy real estate in Slovenia. For that you would also need to obtain a tax number in Slovenia. The process for natural persons is the same as described in the previous paragraph.

Opening a bank account

When opening a bank account in Slovenia, one of the bank’s main conditions is that the natural person has a valid tax ID number in Slovenia.
