Public holidays in Europe for the year 2019 – Slovenia

When doing business in Slovenia, you have to take into account that in addition to the public holidays that are the same as elsewhere in Europe, it also has some that are specific to the territory. One of those is 8th February, Prešeren Day. It is a cultural public holiday that marks the death of the most famous Slovenian Poet, France Prešeren, who also wrote the lyrics to the Slovenian national anthem. The other territory-specific ones are Resistance Day on the 27th April, May 2nd as an additional public holiday for Labor Day, Statehood day on 25th June, Reformation Day on 31st October, and 26th December which is Independence Day.

But if you spread your business in Europe, you also have to take into account what the holidays are in other countries, specifically in the neighboring countries. One of the neighboring countries is Austria – the neighbor to the North. Their public holidays and non-working days are as follows:

Secondly, Italy is Slovenia’s neighbor to the West. It shares many of the same public holidays with Austria due to the same religious background. For example, it shares the public holidays of New Year’s Day, Epiphany and Easter Monday, but they also celebrate Easter Sunday on the 21st April of 2019. They do not celebrate Corpus Christi but they celebrate Assumption Day, All Saints’ Day, Immaculate Conception, Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day on the same days as Austria.

Their specific public holidays are as follows:

25th April – Liberation Day.

1st May – International Worker’s Day.

2nd June – Republic Day.

Thirdly, Hungary is Slovenia’s neighbor to the East. Their public holidays are also mostly religious holidays.

1st January – New Year’s Day.

15th March – Revolution Day.

19th April – Good Friday.

22nd April – Easter Monday.

10th June – Whit Monday.

19th August – St Stephen’s Day Holiday.

20th August – St Stephen’s Day.

23rd October – Republic Day.

1st November – All Saint’s Day.

24th December to 27th December are all public holidays connected to Christmas.

Finally, the last of Slovenia’s neighbors is Croatia. It is the neighbor to the South and also an EU country. They celebrate New Year’s Day, Epiphany, Easter Monday, Corpus Christi, Assumption Day, All Saint’s Day, Christmas Day and St Stephen’s Day the same as Austria.

Their specific public holidays are as follows:

1st May – Labor Day.

22nd June – Anti-Fascist Resistance Day

25th June – Statehood Day.

5th August – Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day.

8th October – Independence Day.
