Sale and import of goods in EU with a company in Slovenia

Statistics show that in Slovenia, trading of goods with non-EU countries has increased. Before the coronavirus outbreak with non-EU countries has increased by 26,5% when comparing to the same period last year. The closest partners for trading and sales are China from non-EU countries, while within the EU the most important trading partners are Germany, Italy, Croatia and Austria. The top import products are cars, refined petroleum, packaged medicament, vehicle parts and delivery trucks. But with a company in Slovenia, you can engage in sales of other products which you can import to Slovenia and sell here and in other EU countries.

To be able to import and sell your products in Slovenia, you firstly need to open a company. It can be a limited liability company (LTD) with 7500€ share capital. If you are expanding your existing business it can also be a daughter company or a branch office. Once the company is registered you can start with your business activity in Slovenia.

You can also already sign agreements with other partners in EU countries but in order to export your products and engage in sale within other EU countries, it might be beneficial to register for the VAT number. You can register for atypical VAT number if you surpass 10.000€ limit of purchasing goods in the EU in the ongoing calendar year. Also, you can register for it if you receive services from a VAT payer in another EU country or if you provide your services to a client in another EU country.
