Obtaining permanent residence permit in Slovenia

Obtaining permanent residence permit in Slovenia

If foreigner wants to obtain a permanent residence permit in Slovenia the main requirement is to have 5 years of continuous arranged status in the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of a temporary residence permit.

If your status in Slovenia was not valid for a 5 years (and you had interruptions with extensions of your temporary residence permit), you still satisfy 5 years, if your interruptions were shorter than six consecutive months and, if combined, they do not exceed ten months in a five-year period.

If you arranged your residence permit for education or because of training, you need to fulfill 10 years of continuous legal stay in the Republic of Slovenia to be eligible to apply for a permanent residence permit.

If you arranged your residence permit on the basis of a temporary residence permit for the purposes of seasonal work, as a posted worker or a daily commuter or as a person under temporary protection, it is not counted to satisfy requirements for a permanent residence permit.

If you have an EU Blue Card and if you have arranged status on this basis in other EU countries, after a 5 continuous years of arrange status you can apply for a residence permit in Slovenia.

You or your legal representative can submit application for a residence permit in Slovenia to the Administrative unit in the area where you have a residential address.

Before you don’t get a decision about a permanent residence permit, you still need to have a valid temporal residence permit in Slovenia.
