The first step to be able to start your business in Europe is establishing a company in Slovenia. A non-EU citizen can open a LTD company. The minimal founding capital is 7.500€ and the company is liable for business conduct in that amount.

In addition to the capital, to open an LTD company all shareholders need a Slovenian tax number. The company also needs a business address in Slovenia. Once you have all documents, all shareholders and representatives have to come to Slovenia for company establishment. The whole process takes up to 14 days to complete.

In that time, you sign company establishment documents and open a corporate bank account into which you deposit the founding capital. Once you complete all the processes, you can proceed to doing business in Slovenia.

Investment into fixed assets of the company in Slovenia, EU – conditions for business immigration

If you only open a company, it does not give you automatic right to apply for work and residence permit. The company has to prove active business conduct to be able to employ foreigners. It has to fulfill one of the three following conditions:

  • Investment into fixed assets of the company in the amount of at least 50.000€
  • Employing an EU citizen for a period of 6 months on a full workday
  • Showing company turnover 10.000€/month for 6 consecutive months.

Once one of these conditions is fulfilled, you can apply for your work and residence permit. After receiving it you, can relocate to Slovenia and oversee your business in person.

Investment into fixed assets of the company in Slovenia, EU – how to make the investment?

If you decide to fulfill the first condition – investment into fixed assets in the amount of 50.000€ – it is not sufficient that you only make a deposit in the corporate bank account. Your company actually has to buy something it would need for business conduct in the amount of at least 50.000€. The item you purchase depends on your business activity and there is no general rule what can be an investment. The most commonly purchased items are commercial real estate, as in office, and purchasing a company car. It can also be other things, if your business activity is more specific: equipment or residential real estate (in cases of renting real estate, offering accommodation).

You have to make this purchase within the first 6 months from company establishment. Once the purchase is complete, the investment is made and then your accountant can insert it into your fixed assets. Then you can apply for your work and residence permit. When you receive it, you can relocate to Slovenia and be employed in the company directly.
