The name of your company based on it’s type
First of all, the name you choose must be unique. That means no other companies can have the same exact name. However, it is different whether you have an s. p. or an LTD.
Sole proprietorships have to include the main company activity into the name. If you are a hairdresser, for example, your s. p. name would be: Hairdressing, Name Surname s. p. However you can also use the shortened version for the name of your company. That is only your name and s. p. Additionally, you are allowed to use a fictional name, if you like.
In case of LTD’s the fictional name is obligatory. Limited liability companies use the abbreviation d. o. o. in Slovene. If you are registering an LTD company as a hairdresser, your name could be: Curlycurl, hairdressing, d. o. o. It is also possible to ue the short version, without the business activity. For instance: Curlycurl d. o. o.

Restrictions when choosing the name
The biggest restriction that happens when choosing the name of your company is it’s uniqueness. Your name has to be different from the existing companies. To check, wheter the name you want is free or not, you can look for it it AJPES.
Another restriction are the letters used. You are allowed to use the letters form the Slovene alphabet, including Č, Š, and Ž. Additionally, letters from other Slavic alphabets are allowed (Ć and Đ), as well as X, Y, Q, and W. However, you cannot use letters from other alphabets, such as Cyrillic, Arabic etc.
