Digital nomads are people who work online and often travel and live in different countries. There are going to be some changes to the Aliens Act. Who can get the residence permit for digital nomads?
The new law was passed on May 21, 2025, but some parts will start later. As already mentioned the rule about digital nomads starts on November 21, 2025.
A digital nomad can be someone who is:
- Not a citizen of the EU or EEA
- Working or doing business for a company outside Slovenia, with a valid contract
- Or, a self-employed person from abroad working remotely via internet
You must also have:
- a valid passport (valid at least 3 months longer than your stay in Slovenia)
- health insurance in Slovenia
- enough money to live in Slovenia.

The permit will be valid for up to one year
The temporary residence permit for digital nomads will be valid for a maximum of one year. It can be also shorter. It depends on the length of your contract. This is the same for self-employed persons. The permit will say “digital nomad” on it. Important thing to mention is also that you cannot extend the digital nomad residence permit. But after six months, you can apply again for a new permit.
