Raising the minimum salary in Slovenia in 2022 – what is taken into account when raising?

In setting the 2022 minimum wage, the Minister of Labor will have to take into account rising prices. Article 3 of the Minimum Wage Act (ZMinP) stipulates that the following factors are taken into account when raising:

  • wage developments;
  • economic situation or economic growth;
  • employment trends.

The most important piece of information for the minimum salary is the amount of the minimum cost of living. The minimum wage must exceed the minimum cost of living by at least 20% and at most by 40%. The minimum cost of living was last calculated in 2017 for 2016. At that time, this amount was € 613.41 per month. However, there are no more recent calculations since 2017.

This year the rise is the lowest possible

This year, the salary increase was in the second half of January. At that time, the minimum salary rose to 1,024.24 euros gross per month. Net this amounts to 736 euros or in other words 120 percent of the minimum cost of living. This was thus the lowest possible salary increase. If the Minister hypothetically decided in 2022 on the highest possible increase, this would mean 1,230 euros in gross amount (858 euros net). In 2021, the minimum wage rose by 8.9 percent, and employers expect a smaller increase in the minimum wage in 2022.
