Documents needed to obtain a visa for Slovenia

In addition to a valid travel document, foreigners, except nationals of the Schengen area, must obtain a visa in order to enter the Republic of Slovenia. Citizens of the EU Member States are not required to hold a visa for the entry into the Republic of Slovenia.

A visa is a permit issued to foreigner by an embassy or a consulate of the Republic of Slovenia abroad. It is putted in the passport in the form of a sticker. Validity of travel document for which a visa is issued, must be at least three months longer than the validity of visa. On the basis of the visa, a foreigner can enter the country (if there are no reasons for its refusal) and stays for as long as it is determined by the visa.

The visa can also be issued only for transit through the territory of the Republic of Slovenia, if the person meets certain conditions for transit and holds a visa that allows him to enter the next country.

What documents will be required to obtain a visa?

In order to apply for visa, you will have to bring the following documentation to a Slovenian embassy or consulate:

  • A valid passport and a copy of its personal information page and other relevant pages (visas, entry and exit stamps, and any other notes)
  • At least one color photograph of the applicant, sized 45mm × 35mm. The photograph should be clear and of good quality. It should be printed on normal photographic paper
  • The visa fee
  • Any supporting documents requested

The supporting documentation, which must be submitted with the application, depends on the type of visa and purpose of persons visit to the Republic of Slovenia. We suggest you to have the pre-filing consultation with the competent diplomatic representative (via telephone, site offices etc).

What kind of documentation may be requested for different types of visas

The following documentation may be requested for different types of visas:

For private visit:

The applicant:

  • proof of employment/education,
  • proof of income statements for the last 3 months,
  • proof of payment of health/pension insurance for the last 3 months (issued by the relevant insurance company),
  • certificate of good conduct,
  • extracts from registers to prove their potential relationship to the guarantor or other family members traveling with the applicant,
  • extract from the register or other evidence, showing the status of the applicant,
  • proof of residence or status in the country of residence,
  • parental authority (in the case of minors),
  • return ticket.

Guarantor

  • original and authenticated affidavit of the person who invites you into the Republic of Slovenia (forms of letters of guarantee are available on the  website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
  • photocopy of the passport or other identity document on the basis of which citizenship and residence is evident,
  • certificate/contract of employment,
  • bank statements for the last 3 months,
  • final decision on the assessment of income tax,
  • evidence that the guarantor is not receiving social assistance,
  • proof of ownership of real estate (extract from the land register) or the lease contract housing.

For business visit

The applicant:

  • extract from the company’s register, from which activity of company is evidenced,
  • proof of employment,
  • proof of income statements for the last 3 months,
  • proof of payment of health/pension insurance for the last 3 months (issued by the relevant insurance company),
  • certificate of good conduct,
  • evidence of any previous operations (customs declarations, invoices, delivery notes, …),

Business partner in Slovenia:

  • invitation letter from the company or organization showing the nature, duration and justification of visit,
  • evidence of any previous operations (customs declarations, invoices, delivery notes, …)
  • it is important that it is clear from the letter of guarantee, what exactly a foreign business partner is up to during his/her stay in the Republic of Slovenia, who will cover the costs of living and housing, how long he/she will stay in the Republic of Slovenia, where he/she will be staying,
  • form of guarantee letter is available on the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.

Tourist visit

The applicant:

  • proof of employment/education,
  • proof of income statements for the last 3 months,
  • proof of payment of health/pension insurance for the last 3 months (issued by the relevant insurance company),
  • certificate of good conduct,
  • various extracts from registers to prove potential relationship to other family members traveling with the applicant,
  • proof of residence or status in the country of residence,
  • parental authority (in the case of minors).

Organizer of the package

  • voucher of travel agency in Slovenia.

In case of treatment:

The applicant:

  • approval of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia

The embassy or consulate which leads visa procedure needs from client to provide proof of the conclusion of the appropriate travel medical insurance. Travel health insurance must be taken out for a sum insured of at least 30,000 € and must be valid throughout the territory for which the visa was issued.
