Novelty – Slovenia has changed the regulation on crossing the border

The coronavirus outbreak caused many countries in Europe to either close borders or prescribe a quarantine for persons entering the country in that time. The novelty regulation provides for an exemption for persons from third countries, who do not have to be in quarantine after entering Slovenia. These are people who have been sent to work in the international transport sector. This novelty also applies to drivers who travel through the Republic of Slovenia to another country on the same day, i.e. are in transit.

Novelty – Last week, Slovenia did first steps in opening the borders after calling off the COVID-19 epidemic

The opening of borders, except for citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and foreigners with permanent residence in the Republic of Slovenia, will take place gradually. Crossing the border is currently possible for citizens of the EU, Great Britain, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, who have not been outside this area for the last 14 days.

In the event that any of these persons is positive for coronavirus, Slovenia may deny them entry into the country. The Government will continuously update the list of countries from which entry to the Republic of Slovenia will be allowed, based on the assessment of the epidemiological situation in neighboring countries and agreements of the Ministry of Interior with neighboring EU member states and Schengen countries, as well as general agreements at EU level. The novelties on the included countries will be published on the website of the Ministry of Interior.
