EU nationals and permanent residence

What about EU nationals? How does the law apply for them? In general, EU nationals do not obtain a permit for permanent residence. Still, they are able to apply for it after five years. They need to follow the same rules for absence. However, before the 5 years are up, an EU national can get a certificate of permanent residence if he or she is of Slovenian origin or if his or her residence is in the country’s interest.

Exceptions for EU nationals – what are they?

Normally, there are exceptions here too. For instance, if the EU national works in Slovenia for the last 12 months and is a legal resident for at least 3 years. Moreover, if you work in Slovenia for more than 3 years and get a job in another EU country, you can still get a permit for permanent residence. However, you need to return to Slovenia once a day or once a week. To this end, family members can also benefit from this. In time, they can also apply for the permit after two years, only if their member gets the permanent residence. Do you need more information? Just call us on +386 40 530 718 (Viber/WhatsApp).
