Employment and work of foreign citizens in the Republic of Slovenia is based on the provisions of the Aliens Act (ZTuj). Directive 2011/98/EC introduces the concept of a single permit to live and work, which will now be issued in a single procedure in the administrative units of Slovenia.
Additionally, it will be possible to obtain permission for foreigners on the basis of:
- seasonal work
- work as a sole proprietor;
- work in other countries on the basis of employment in Slovenian companies (this category is not included in the Directive).
The principle of “one window” allows foreign nationals to obtain a one-time work permit and residence permit in “one place” (administrative unit). The proposed measures do not differ from those already established mechanisms for obtaining a residence permit on the basis of highly qualified employment (EU Blue Card).
One permit for employment and residency
This means that foreigners, nationals of third countries who came to Slovenia for employment or work, will no longer need to receive two permissions. They will replaced by the one that will unite the residence permit and work permit.
The exception is seasonal work for up to three months, as in this case, foreigners, nationals of third countries will no longer need to obtain a temporary residence permit.
