Digital nomads are people who work online and often travel and live in different countries. Who can get the residence permit for digital nomads?
The change to the Aliens Act was made on May 21, 2025, but some rules started later. The rule for digital nomads started on November 21, 2025.
A digital nomad can be someone who is:
- Not a citizen of the EU or EEA
- Working or doing business for a company outside Slovenia, with a valid contract
- Or, a self-employed person from abroad working remotely via internet
You must also have:
- a valid passport (valid at least 3 months longer than your stay in Slovenia)
- health insurance in Slovenia
- enough money to live in Slovenia.

The permit will be valid for up to one year
The temporary residence permit for digital nomads is valid for a maximum of one year. It can also be shorter but this depends on the length of your contract. This is the same for self-employed persons. The permit says “digital nomad” on it. An important thing to mention is that you cannot extend the digital nomad residence permit. However, after six months, you can apply again for a new permit.
