Obtaining Slovenian citizenship

One of the options for obtaining Slovenian citizenship is based on the naturalisation. Slovenian citizenship based on the naturalisation a foreigner can obtain if fullfilling certain conditions:

Foreigner has to be older than 18 and has to provide also a certificate of non-criminal record from the country of the citizenship, proofs of having enough funds to live on your money in Slovenia, also a client has to provide a documentation that proves that he has been living in Slovenia for 10 years with a proof of a status in Slovenia.

One of the main conditions for obtaining Slovenian citizenship based on the naturalisation, along with having residence permit in Slovenia for 10 years, is, that you provide a proof tof passing the exams of Slovenian Language.

Foreigners can submit application for Slovenian citizenship at the Administrative Unit in Slovenia. At the procedure of submission of application, also administrative tax is paid.

Slovenia offers free courses of Slovenian language to a foreigners from third countries.

Who has the right to apply for this language courses of Slovenian?

  • foreigners that have permanent residence permit in Slovenia and their family members who have temporary residence permit in Slovenia based on the family reunification
  • foreigners that have been having temporary residence permit for the period of at least 24 months, without a gap in the prolongation and their family members who have temporary residence permit in Slovenia based on the family reunification
  • family members of a citizen of EU or European Economic Zone and they live in Slovenia based on the temporary residence permit
