How to conduct a business in Slovenia if you are not an EU citizen?

Many foreigners – non EU citizens who want to conduct a business in Slovenia, are wondering  how to do it and what type of company to open in Slovenia?

Citizens of non EU members, who are legally living in Slovenia for a minimum of one year have the right to start and conduct a business in Slovenia as an individual entrepreneur – sole trader. Anyone, who live in Slovenia less than one year, has the right to open: LTD, branch or representative office.

In order to start and conduct a business in Slovenia with the opening of the LTD, the founders have to invest a starting capital in the minimum amount of 7.500 EUR. When the company in Slovenia is registered, this capital can be used to conduct a business (for company’s monthly expenses, salaries, investments, etc.).

When can you get a single work and residence permit if you want to conduct a business in Slovenia?

If you want to conduct a business in Slovenia and obtain a single work and residence permit, you have to meet the certain conditions.

The director has the right to obtain residence permit in Slovenia through conduct a business in Slovenia if he/she fulfills one of the conditions for active business. You have one of the following options:

  • Make an investment in the fixed assets in the amount of at least 5.000 EUR;
  • Full-term employment an employee in the company for 6 months;
  • Show the company income for the past 6 months, which should not be lower than 10.000 EUR per month;

As a company director you have the right to apply for a single work and residence permit without monitoring the labor market in Slovenia.
